A bit about me

6 years
I graduated from the University of Georgia’s Henry W. Grady School of Journalism, where I studied journalism, sociology and sustainability. Prior to joining Red Ventures EDU’s NurseJournal team, I reported for a number of publications and served as Editor in Chief of The Red & Black newspaper. Today I manage and edit content for NurseJournal.org, where I prioritize accessible, audience-centric resources for working and student nurses.
PAST WORK
During the summer of 2019, I was an Editorial intern at the The Atlanta Business Chronicle reporting on news, culture and trends in the Atlanta Business scene and covered major Atlanta-based players including Chick-fil-A and Coca-Cola, local chefs including Anne Quatrano and tourist attractions like the Aquarium. Leading up to my business internship, I wet my feet in various corners of the student-run newsroom The Red & Black through holding positions including Editor in Chief, Digital Managing Editor, Campus News Editor and Culture Editor.
I ventured into the magazine realm and covered the intersection of news and culture as a Connector intern with Atlanta Magazine in summer 2018. I explored the city of Atlanta through the lens of public art, literature and profiles of the characters that make Atlanta the growing city that it is.
FREELANCING
Freelancing gave me an opportunity to market myself, hone my skills outside of a newsroom and work with a remote editor. I freelanced for U.S. News & World Report on behalf of Higher Education to research and document various school programs and where these programs rank in competition with other schools. In this position, I fine-tuned fact checking, research and research-oriented language skills.
These skills from U.S. News & World Report pair well with the skills I earned from writing and editing for culture, news and managing a newsroom, offering a well-rounded exposure to various connotations and tones that distinguish various writing topics and journalistic beats.
RESEARCH
From December 2016 to April 2017 I participated in the student-teacher research fellowship CURO program, where I researched the linkages between environmental degradation and human rights abuse and presented my research at the CURO Symposium in April 2017. Publication of my research abstract is archived in the UGA CURO abstract archive.
FUTURE
I recently packed up my Southern charm and moved to the Seattle area to pursue a journalism career. I am always looking for freelance opportunities in Seattle. I am also very interested in the growing trend of podcasts and how news and social topics are communicated through this audio platform. Print and audio journalism are my strongest interests.
